Dr. David Pifer is a board certified Optometrist. He received his optometric training at Nova Southeastern College of Optometry in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida graduating with honors in 1998.
While there, he was the recipient of the 1997 American Optometric Foundation Corning Scholarship Award, the 1998 Southern Council of Optometrists Award for Clinical Excellence and his 1998 journal article "Bacterial Corneal Ulcer; Successfully Treated with Anitbiotics and Corticosteroids" was published in the Review of Optometry.
Upon graduation in 1998, Dr. Pifer and his family moved to Chattanooga. He has since worked with the ophthalmology practices at North Park Eye Center, DiStefano Regional Eye Center and TLC Laser Eye Center. He has owned and operated Uptown Vision of Chattanooga since 2001. He is a frequent lecturer in the community on numerous topics including LASIK, Dry Eye, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular-Degeneration and Glaucoma. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Georgia.
Dr. Pifer resides in Chattanooga with his wife, and four children. He enjoys spending time playing with his children, aiding their education, and supporting their artistic endeavors. He enjoys quiet moments with his wife, vacationing with the family, and boating on the Tennessee River. His personal interests include playing basketball, hiking and working out.
Dr. Sarah E. Shim is a board certified optometrist with extensive training in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease and disorders of the visual system.
Dr. Shim graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Linguistics from University of Georgia along with a minor in music. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. One of the highlights of her optometry school experience was serving the underprivileged through Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and Remote Area Medical. In 2008, Dr. Shim was the sole recipient of the Georgia Optometric Association’s Allan V. Wexler Scholarship.
Dr. Shim completed her residency training and certification specializing in Ocular Disease and Geriatrics at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center.
In May of 2012, Dr. Shim relocated to Chattanooga to join Uptown Vision. Dr. Shim provides comprehensive eye care, and has a special interest in corneal disease. She enjoys traveling, music, people, and culture. "
